The Australian Ballet and Telstra have announced four artists selected as finalists in the inaugural Telstra Emerging Choreographer (TEC), a new award dedicated to nurturing choreographic talent in Australia. 

Billy Mustapha is a professional dancer born and raised in Canada. Living between Vancouver and Los Angeles for the past three years, Billy has been working as a series regular on season 2 of Emmy Award winning TV show, Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist as an actor/dancer alongside world renowned choreographer, Mandy Moore. Dance Writer caught up with Billy to get an insight into how to break into the industry as a male dancer.

Arts Centre Melbourne’s Morning Melodies returns to Hamer Hall to delight audiences with a stellar line-up of music theatre, cabaret, opera, jazz and dance from May to December 2021. The much loved, feel-good concerts will celebrate Australian performers including David Hobson, Silvie Paladino, Zoy Frangos and Trevor Ashley as well as future stars with performances from The Australia Ballet School and Victorian College of the Arts. 

Now an annual tradition, The Australian Ballet School’s performance opens Art Centre Melbourne’s 2021 Morning Melodies program with En Pointe – a wonderful repertoire filled with energy, athleticism and the refined skills of the School's young dancers; celebrating the art of ballet with new works from Stephen Baynes and Simon Dow along with the romance of Paquita.

Award-winning choreographer Alisdair Macindoe debuts Reference Material, a new dance work as a part of Darebin Arts Speakeasy season at the Northcote Town Hall Arts Centre. This piece adequately explores the process and history of dance making in the age of narcissism.
