David Hallberg And Gillian Murphy Guest Artists With The Australian Balletβs Symphony In C
US-born dancer David Hallberg and Gillian Murphy will return to the stage as guest artists in the Melbourne premiere of Symphony in C from late August this year at the Arts Centre.
David Hallberg is one of the most respected male ballet dancers in modern history. He is the first American dancer to join the Russian companyβs highest rank. A principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre and Bolshoi Ballet, Mr Hallberg joined The Australian Ballet as the first resident guest in early 2017 after assisting the company on the medical team. He was forced to quit dance in 2014 for more than two years due to an ankle injury. Now after his guest artist debut in the Brisbane season of The Sleeping Beauty, Hallberg is ready to perform alongside his American Ballet Theatre principal Gillian Murphy in Symphony in C.
The Australian Balletβs Artistic Director, David McAllister said, βWeβre thrilled that this paragon of classical style is returning to Australia to perform in a ballet that pays tribute to the golden era of classical dance.β
The ballet Symphony in C is best described as a tutu spectacular, choreographed by the infamous George Balanchine. Balanchineβs Broadway essence will be executed through a flurry of white tutus, where dancers perform fast-paced movements in unison. The work is set to George Bizetβs eponymous score, which was originally written in 1855 when the composer was just 17-years-old.
Symphony in C will be performed from August 24 to September 2, 2017, at the Arts Centre Melbourne. You can purchase tickets here.
