Dance Writer is Australia’s freshest boutique publication, shining a light on small dance businesses, reviewing dance performances and interviewing aspirational talent. We express the values of aspiration and inspiration through the written word. Melbourne dancer and journalist Jessica Poulter started this blog when she had the idea to fuse her two passions. Established in 2014 as merely an open diary of Jessica’s, Dance Writer rapidly developed a name for being a publication that is raising the dancing community, not tearing it down. With our extensive ambassador program of all different calibre, we hope we can spread the word about safe dance effectively.
Dance Writer aims to become the world’s most recognised dance publication, bringing inspiration and positivity to the dancing industries. Expanding into podcasts, videography and training portals, Dance Writer will become more than a publication, but rather a virtual space where dancers can gain knowledge, interact and be inspired.
Dance like no one is watching… Jessica was born and raised on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Australia. At four-years-old she began her dancing journey, competing in Calisthenics, ballet, jazz and contemporary. Jessica later expanded into Hip Hop and Ballroom, where she found her true flair for Latin dance. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English in Creative Writing from Murdoch University, a Diploma of Journalism from Macleay College, and studies her Masters in Business and Entrepreneurship at The Australian Institute of Business in addition with her Certificate IV in Dance Teaching and Management at Transit Dance. Jessica’s has journalistic experience as a columnist for the Australian Dance Review, a travel writer for digital publications The Culture Trip and Global Hobo, news intern at Nova 100, journalist and TV news anchor at Macleay Newsroom, executive producer for the talkback show Brian Carlton’s Tasmania Talks, and investigative reporter and daily newsreader at RPP FM Peninsula radio. Jessica is now a social media and marketing manager at MWC Media, assisting in the promotion of television shows for TVONE in New Zealand, Prime, Southern Cross, Network TEN and more. She founded Dance Writer in 2014 and hopes to turn her blog into a global publication.
