Transit Dance Announces Artistic Director Israel Aloni

Melbourne renowned full-time establishment Transit Dance has just announced European choreographer Israel Aloni as artistic director for a new pre-professional program aimed at bridging the gap between Australian and international contemporary dancers.

Co-director of ilDance in Sweden Israel Aloni will be packing up and moving to Melbourne in light of his new role as artistic director of Transit Dance’s newly formed pathway. Transit Dance founder Paul Malek alongside his fellow directors have been working tirelessly over the last six months to create what is known as the Tr.IPP program.

“We are so excited about introducing this world-leading and uniquely designed Pathway to our plethora of programs here at Transit Dance. We are also thrilled to announce that leading this new venture is none other than globally renowned dance artist, Israel Aloni,” said Mr Malek.

The nine-month intensive course commencing in 2018 is targeted at pre-professional to professional young contemporary dancers. Famous choreographers from Germany, Netherlands, Israel, Japan, and Wales will guest teach in the program and will end with a world premiere production season and tour directed by Israel Aloni.

Israel Aloni has a long-track record of choreographic credits working with Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company, GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, to other independent companies around the world. He also was a guest artist with Sasha Waltz & Guests in Berlin.

“I am really excited about the context that Transit Dance will give my aspirations and visions in terms of fostering and nurturing artists in their emancipation and liberation processes,” Mr Aloni said in a press release.
