Get ready kids, Storytime Ballet is back! The Australian Ballet has announced a national tour of its next Storytime Ballet, The Nutcracker in December 2016, which will be catered to children three years and up. The Australian Ballet’s artistic director David McAllister said the company is excited to present this production to children all around Australia just in time for Christmas, with extra dates to be announced in 2017. “Opening in 2016 and touring into 2017, we’re delighted to bring the production to more people and theatres around Australia, giving families the chance to experience world class ballet,” he said. The inaugural season of Storytime Ballet in 2015 received critical acclaim. Part of its success is tailoring the production to children who desire a creative learning experience. This year aims to build on last year’s success by providing children with the ultimate ballet experience. “The Nutcracker is one of the world’s most-loved story ballets and the perfect introduction to ballet for children, as they follow this classic Christmas tale of Clara and her adventures,” Mr McAllister said. The Nutcracker will showcase brand new designs by Australian designer Krystal Giddings, as well as sparkling tutus and enchanting music that children are sure to adore. There will be opportunities for cast-audience interactions, including the Nutcracker, Sugar Plum Fairy and the Mouse King. Parents are encouraged to dress their kids in ballet-inspired costumes, so they can join in on the transformative world that is ballet. There will be a narrator on stage to explain the ballet’s story to the children.
