Want to progress your technical training? Desire to be on stage with other like-minded dancers? Want to work with some of Melbourne’s most up and coming choreographers?

Auditions for the Mornington Peninsula-based contemporary collective Spark Youth Dance Company are happening Saturday 20th January at the Southern Peninsula Arts Centre.

Spark Youth Dance Company holds auditions only once a year, taking on a cast of entirely young people from ages 7 to 25. Spark Youth Dance Company also facilitates experience in all areas of production including stage management, costume design, lighting, music orchestration and more if successful.

Artistic director of Spark Youth Dance Company Alex Dellaportas and her devoted team are on the search for dancers who are highly creative, passionate about dance and team players who can dedicate a year to performing in a reputable company.

Successful applicants will perform a ‘Triple Bill’ of works with three emerging young choreographers in term one, will also feature in a new full-length dance work performed to a live orchestra in terms two and three, plus participate in various other opportunities throughout the year.

Spark Youth Dance Company is essentially contemporary-based, however strong ballet skills are strongly encouraged.

The audition will consist of a one-hour ballet class followed by a 45-minute contemporary class, which will include improvisation work.

The audition panel will include artistic director Alex Dellaportas as well as vice-president Sophie Armstrong and secretary Denique Adlam. There will also be guest teachers to run the classes.

2017 was a huge growth year for Spark. The company helped raised awareness for mental health organisation Headspace by creating short films, as well as performed a full-length contemporary piece, ’Shatter,’ about the British suffragette movement to a 40-piece live orchestra at the Frankston Arts Centre.
